OK…I’m pushing forward to reveal Little Man’s big boy room even though it isn’t entirely finished! I still need a few things up on the walls…but maybe you can help me with that
I’m really happy with how the room turned out and how quickly we were able to get it put together. I struggled deciding between several bedding sets I had purchased and I’m SO glad I decided to go in this direction! The room is fun…perfect for my little man with his fascination with “CARS!!!” and “AWEPLANES”. I didn’t have to paint the walls and was able to use several pieces of furniture we already owned! We were on a pretty serious budget. I splurged on a couple of key pieces that I thought he could use for a long time…and tried to use a lot of what we already had!

I’m still debating those vintage planes. I love having something hanging in the corner over the chair (they were left there from his airplane nursery). I’d love to do 3 different sized orange lanterns…is that to girly??
The biggest piece of furniture we bought was this adorable comfy chair! We have had a slipcovered denim rocker in his room since he came home from the hospital…to say he was attached to that chair was an understatement. He ADORED that chair. But I REALLY wanted that rocker in then nursery as I plan on spending MANY hours rocking our new little man to sleep in it. When I happened across this chair on Craigslist for $100 I did the HAPPY DANCE (it wasn’t pretty…my dancing that is). The slipcover is removable and wonderfully made! Oh, how I love Craigslist!!!

I purchased the bed right after Sam was born from Jamie of HIGH AND DRY. I got it when she was moving her store for $25 because it didn’t have rails. A quick call to a mattress outlet provided the rails for another $25. It was originally black but I painted it blue to coordinate with the bedding that I fell in love with
Then I took some sand paper to it to make it suitable for a 2 year old boy…I really didn’t want to have to worry about the first few knicks and scrapes so I took care of those myself
Plus…I’m partial to furniture that looks like it has been abused!
I’m still trying to decide which image I love the best to place above his bed…hoping to get that ordered tonight! Plus I found a super cute orange clock to put up there too!

The rug we already had (it came from Target). The bedding came from Target too and was part of their Dwell line. I BIG GIANT FLUFFY HEART that throw pillow and the sheets! I got all of the pieces on clearance (and ONLY had to go to 16 different Targets to piece it all together!) The comforter set (comforter and sham) was $24.99. The sheets were $9.98 and the throw pillow was $13.98 (that was my big splurge -HA!) I also got the window panels which were sold separately and were $13,98 per panel. I was shocked how well they were made…fully lined!

The bed was painted with Sherwin Williams “regatta blue”…might be a new favorite shade of mine! Nothing fancy…sanded lightly, slapped on some paint (this time I rolled it on on the flat parts and laid it off with a brush to save time), and then sanded like crazy!

I love the little footboard. When we purchased his mattress we also got a bunkie board to lay under the mattress instead of a box spring. This makes his bed sit lower to the ground and I was able to forego the whole dust ruffle fiasco (I hate dust ruffles…they are so dust ruflly!)

Did I mention I love this pillow?

This little bookshelf was already in his room but was avocado green which just didn’t work. Once again…I painted and sanded…and stuck it back in its spot! It holds all of his board books, a special piggy bank, and a vintage train case. I totally scored on that lamp at TJ MAXX. It is the perfect shade of orange…was just the right size…and was only $19.99. Ok…ok…I originally bought a MUCH bigger more expensive lamp that was really kind of ugly but returned it quickly once I came to my senses and found this little cutie

The dresser is from JAMIE too. I bought it Memorial Day weekend at one of her flea market sales! It was $50 and ADORABLE! It was black originally but also got a coat of “regatta blue” and some new knobs from Target.

This sentiment was already above his old dresser and it seemed to fit right in so I kept it there. I’d love to spray paint those stars…maybe orange??

The bookshelf was already in the room…a special creation from his grandpa! It has been in all of our kid’s rooms at one point or another!

Cute little pillow from Target!

Fun wooden toy bin I scored at Liberty Belle Antiques last weekend!

Wire basket from Gordmans on clearance for $5. I’ll probably fill this with a bunch of his tiny toy cars

Overall the room changes have been a BIG SUCCESS! He seems super happy with his new big boy room and is happy to climb into bed every night. He’s done a great job at bedtime and has been staying in his room GREAT…he just hasn’t been staying IN HIS BED! This morning when I went in to wake him up I found him like this

And a few nights ago I went in to check on him around 1am after a late night working. I tiptoed into his room…waited for my eyes to adjust…and realized he wasn’t in bed!! I couldn’t find him ANYWHERE! I had a complete moment of panic wondering how someone had broken in and KIDNAPPED him while I was home (and why didn’t they take the rest of my kids???) Until I saw a teeny tiny toe peeking out from under the bed. Yup. Books, toys, his favorite blankie, and my little man fast asleep under his bed
Tonight as we tucked him in we said “stay in your bed and go to sleep!”….he just chuckled
