Thrifty Thursday
If you’ve stopped by my blog before, then you know I am a huge sucker for a deal. I have an eclectic style…it’s hard to put a finger on. But one thing it definitely is…CHEAP.
So when the Spring Mini Boden catalog graced my mailbox early this week I did a little swoon. I most definitely love their clothes. Who wouldn’t love a catalog full of preppy colors, girlish shapes, and long-wearing knits? But come on…REALLY BODEN….10% just isn’t going to cut it for me. At least not right now with the adoption savings in full swing.
Would you buy this? {skirt $24}
Or this? {hoodie $38}
When this costs NINE DOLLARS for the SET!
And it comes in a myriad of colors (and stripes and dots…and even a hoodie set with pants)
No it may not last through 200 washes. But I don’t think the seat of her swing out back is going to notice the difference. And at that price I can get it in a rainbow of colors
I am NOT brand loyal…just CUTE LOYAL. It has to be cute….bottom line. But if Walmart can do cute…than I can do Walmart. {these came in at least 5 different colors and included sets with skirts and pants…the skirts have built in bike shorts which makes me nearly giddy…sizes up to 5T}
And while we are talking about cheap. We love a good slogan tee here at the Cooper house. And I am a big fan of the junk food tees carried regularly at Gap and Old Navy…come on…who doesn’t love a trip down memory lane? All those vintage graphics speak to me
How about a cute vintage candy theme? {$5 each at Walmart…sizes 4-10) And just as a side note…that Jolly Ranchers tee looks mighty cute under the green hoodie above!
OK…I am NOT typically a Walmart advocate. But I had to share a few good finds. A few nights ago we were all watching TV in the family room when an ad came on for Walmart…”Save money. Live better.” As soon as the slogan appeared on the TV, A shouted out “That’t a lie! Walmart won’t make your life better!” I was so proud. My seven year old had navigated the complex world of propaganda and had come out unscathed. Then she followed her outrage with, “Everyone knows Costo is the best place in the world!” HA! I guess we’ve still got some work to do
Here’s my other thrifty find for today.
This hideously ugly $27.20 coffee table I rescued from Revival. We have been working hard on reclaiming a family room space in our finished basement and it was lacking a landing spot for my Diet Coke. But a coffee table really wasn’t in the budget. Or so I thought. I’m not really sure what I liked about this table. Except maybe the price
It’s getting a clean coat of aqua paint (from a leftover project) and some distressing on the legs. I had planned to paint the entire piece aqua but then decided I kind of liked the top stained. WHAT DO YOU THINK? I planned to glaze it with a darker stain on top to contrast the aqua and coordinate better with our tv armoire (I love that word…armoire…I feel so French).
So those are my thrifty finds. Pretty nifty huh? Now you can all rush out to Walmart to outfit your little girls (they ARE open 24 hours a day you know!) And because I can’t post without an image of one of my own sweet people. Here is J from this afternoon. I think this is one of my new favorite images of her. I was trying to practice something on her and she was being a squirrly five year old…rolling all over the floor like a little tornado..when I shouted something like “stop thrashing around and be cute for second”…and she gave me this. LOVE HER!

The nitty gritty: {for those who have asked}
Nikon D90, Speedlight SB-900 bounced off ceiling, 24-70mm lens, Shutter 1/160, Aperture f/3.2, ISO 800, my own black and white conversion and a touch of vignette
Have a Thrifty kind of night!
Plus, you know you could make those cutie applique (another fancy frenchy word) tee’s in no time flat. I’m not even that crafty and I pulled off some at Christmas time. ;^)
Thanks for sharing! Sarah
I love the Wal-Mart finds! I might go online now and do the ship-to-store.
Yes, I like the top of the table with a stain! Thanks for the fun post! Great pic of your resident model!
Love the Nitty Gritty info!!! Yah!!!! Will we see this more often?
I had a bad run in with Wal-Mart today. I returned a blanket sleeper with a gift receipt and they tried to give me $1.50 for it bcs that was the price the item was at today. I explained I had a gift receipt and they told me they don’t honor price at purchase without the original receipt and that the gift receipt only proves it was purchased at a Wal-Mart. I left the store with the too small blanket sleeper and went to Target for the rest of my errands and promised to never buy a gift for anyone at Wal-Mart!
Yea, WM is a love/hate relationship for me. Love the prices/hate the store’s crowded parking lot and unfriendly folks (not all, but LOTS). But I’ll put all that aside for that cute green hoodie set
Thinkin’ that it will look mighty cute with Grace’s pink chucks!
Oh, and I vote for staining the top of the table. Love the aqua!
Love Boden! Hate the prices! Yay, Walmart!
I was frantically trying to see how I could rearrange my morning tomorrow to include a trip to Walmart. Lo and behold, Walmart.com has a few of the sets available! I scored the green hoodie/skort and a cute polka dot lavender hoodie/skort set. $2 shipping for the whole thing. I’ll still have to venture out to locate those candy T’s, but I’m satisfied for now
Thanks for the awesome tip.
Love the coffee table. Just how you have painted it. It is adorable. And I love thrifty too. Cute buys. =)
Jenn,
This post was just filled with fun! Those Wal-Mart sets are adorable. I may have to make a run for the super fun tees this morning. And that table was a GREAT find. I like the aqua legs and think a darker stain on top would make it all really pop. I can’t wait to see the finished product.
Oh, & finally, thanks for the camera info. I’m a total novice with my camera, but the more I read, the more I learn. So tips and notes are always helpful.

Do you know about the mini boden recommend a friend deal? For every friend that you recommend to them (which entails their name and address but who wouldn’t love to get a beautiful catalog in the mail?) each month, you can get $5 and you can recommend up to 4 friends! That’s $20 credit you can potentially get from boden a month! They do have to be friends who aren’t on their mail list, though. But, what a deal! There’s a dress in there I’m totally getting for my middle bit, Meredith! Love it!
I LOVE the aqua paint on the table and would also vote for staining the top….I like the contrast of the wood with the paint. Can’t wait to see the finished product!!!
THANK YOU for the “nitty gritty”!! I have been dying to know…but you are a busy lady, and I didn’t want to ask. Pleeeease include this helpful info for us wannabees!!
Love the pics, as always!
THANKS SO MUCH for sharing the bargain tip with your readers! Just scored 3 sets on Walmart.com. They didn’t find any of the pant sets in stock online though and the T’s either. So we’ll have to see what the stores have. So helpful and very much appreciated! LOVE Boden, Don’t like the high prices…even used. Now if I can find some super great deal “look-alike” for my little man (6 yrs old).
Fabulous find on the coffee table. You sure have a great eye!
love the miniboden walmart lookalikes and the junk food tees!! and want to know what color blue is that??..LOVE IT gotta hit the salvation army/ thrift shop more ofton~! SPRING PLAN! but you make it look so easy!
LOVE the Walmart clothes! I too have been drooling over my mini boden catalog. And these look remarkably close! Now if I can just squeeze Sophia into a 5T for one more season????
Love the table also. I really like leaving the top stained. I have a desk in our basement that I’ve wanted to refinish FOREVER. My plan was to paint the bottom and leave the top, too!
I am TOTALLY going to Walmart and looking for these! This was such a fun post! I love the aqua too…my favorite! Were we seperated at birth??? What kind of paint did you use by the way? It that an oil base? I have a piece I wanna paint!
I LOVE the great Walmart finds! So cute. Why don’t they ever have anything decent for boys? And the table was a great find too. I definitely think you should keep the top. I can’t wait to see all of the creativity in your basement!
Love the outfits and the table. I think I will go to Walmart tonight.
love your stuff! I just ran across your blog and your stuff is just so fresh and clean looking! And you pulled me in also with your thrifty thursday, I to pride myself on being a bargain shopper. Cute does not always have to be pricey!! yay for bargain shoppers!
Can I tell you that this post made my heart skip a little beat?!! LOVE it when people share fun finds like this! And uber cheap fun finds are even better!!
Like you, I am cute loyal, not brand loyal!!
I hit up two Wal Mart’s yesterday in search of those junk food tees and didn’t have much luck! One store didn’t have ANY! And the other was extremely picked over! But I am going to work with what I found! (Plus, my mom and BFF are checking their local Wally Worlds for me too!) And they didn’t have ANY of the skirts and hoodies! BUMMER!!
If that is a Mini Boden shirt that J is wearing above and it happens to be green and purple, Gentry has the same one! LOVE it!!
Happy Monday! Thanks for sharing the fun finds! I now have an entire photo shoot planned around one of the shirts!!
